It all began when I was a young girl cooking in the kitchen with my mother. By late elementary school, my brother and I were tasked with planning and preparing dinner for our family at least once per week. While I have always loved cooking and experimenting in the kitchen, baking quickly became a passion. I started as a child like most baking frozen logs of cookie dough, or boxes of cake and brownie mix. By sixth grade I began experimenting from scratch. In fact, my first attempt was a complete disaster. It was this evening where I learned the difference between T and t. Afterall, my first batch of scratch chocolate cupcakes bubbled over in my mom’s oven and tasted purely of salt. This was one disastrous mess I will never forget.
Years later and countless experiments under my apron, I stepped out of my comfort zone and Ladie Kakes was introduced to the world. My sweets are now available to the masses and in local Farmers’ Markets. In 2018 with my Whoopie Pies at the forefront, Ladie Kakes was awarded a small business grant by the DLBA and CSULB’s Institute for Innovation. Spring of 2019 Ladie Kakes was invited to participate in the Taste of Downtown Long Beach 2019 Summer Series. Not only did we sale out!!! My Whoopie Pies were voted Most Creative and Best Sweet three times in a row (That’s right back to back to back)!!! Summer of 2019, I was featured in the Downtown Long Beach Newsletter, as the cover story for the Entrepreneurship workshop series. Exciting and humbling to say the least.
Ladie Kakes’ treats are still available at local Farmer’s Markets here in Long Beach. Now, we are also accepting orders for pickup and shipping through our online store ladiekakes.square.site.
